Before you run with me
STRAIGHT ANSWERS.
Every question people ask before they work with me, in one place. No spin, no upsell maze. If yours isn't here, just ask me.
Is this for you?
Who is the FOSS Method for?
Former competitive athletes who now run companies: founders, CEOs, and executives. The common thread is not the sport. It's that you were once coached hard, you compete by instinct, and right now most of the business still runs through you. You don't have to have played college or pro sports either. If you competed at anything that demanded real discipline, you have the wiring I coach.
Do I need to have played college or pro sports?
No. You need an athlete's mindset: internally competitive, driven, and still willing to be coached hard. I focus on former athletes because they lived those things in sports, but I've worked with plenty of leaders who never played college or pro sports and had that same wiring. If you went deep in band, chess, or anything that demanded real dedication, discipline, and passion, you have what I call athlete's DNA. That's what I coach.
What if my team never played sports?
You do not need a roster of former athletes. You need a leader who holds the standard. The language is built for you because you are the one I coach, but your team will judge the system by whether it makes their week saner, not by what the meetings are called. Teams do not reject systems over vocabulary; they reject them when the boss launches a new thing and stops holding it a month in. Hold the line, and the eye-rolls fade the first time Game Film kills a problem that used to come back every quarter.
Who is this NOT for?
Three leaders, honestly: the one who wants everyone else fixed but will not hold the standard personally, the one whose company needs cash triage before it needs a system, and the one who plans to hand this off and check in once a month. I have watched each of those stall the work, and no tool fixes them. If any of that is you right now, take the free Score first and use it to fix the real problem before you spend a dollar.
The Method
What is the FOSS Method?
A performance operating system for your business, built in the language you already speak. It stands on four pillars: EDGE, STANDARD, STRUCTURE, and LEGACY. You install them in order, each one earning the next, until the standard lives in your team instead of your head and the business runs without you in every meeting. It's the same system whether you install it yourself, in a group, or with me.
How is this different from other coaching or operating systems?
Most coaching treats you like a generic executive and hands you frameworks that sit in a binder. I only work with former athletes, because the way you were wired to compete is the thing we build on, not the thing we coach out of you. And we don't just talk strategy. We install a performance operating system into your business so it runs without you in the room. If the business can't run without you, you don't have a business. You have a trap. We fix that.
How do I get my business to run without me?
You stop being the system and you install one. Right now the standard lives in your head, so every decision routes through you, and that is why you cannot leave the room. The FOSS Method installs it in order: get your edge back, set the standard, build the structure that runs it, then hand it off. A business that runs without you is not you working less. It is your team holding the standard when you are not there to hold it for them.
Why do most operating system installs fail?
Because the binder gets installed and the standard never does. Companies set up every meeting and every tool, and inside a year the meetings decay into status updates nobody would fight to keep, because no one is holding a standard the structure can run. That is why the Method puts EDGE and STANDARD before STRUCTURE. Frameworks do not hold themselves. Leaders do.
Is it just for the leadership team, or the whole company?
The FOSS Method is built for the whole company, and the biggest impact shows up when it reaches the frontline. The most common reason an install drags is a leader who shares it with the leadership team, then quietly decides the next level down won't get it. That's backwards. I built the Method in plain athletic language on purpose, and a frontline employee picks up a huddle, a scoreboard, and a play faster than any corporate framework you've handed them. When the frontline runs the same plays you do, the standard holds whether you're in the building or not.
Can I do the FOSS Method on my own, without a coach?
Yes. The 26 videos and 30+ tools are built so you can install the system yourself, pillar by pillar, and some leaders do exactly that. Here's the honest part: the content was never the hard part. The hard part is the week the rhythm slips and there's nobody above you to call it, and that's what a coach is for, same as when you played. Start with The Score either way. It's free and takes five minutes.
Getting started
What is The Score?
A free leadership assessment. It takes about five minutes. You answer a short set of questions and get a read across five areas, plus the pattern you tend to lead by. It's Game Film, not a grade on you as a person. It shows you where you really stand right now.
How do I get started?
Start with The Score, the free five-minute assessment that shows where you really stand. From there you can get on a Game-Plan Call with me, founder to founder, with no pitch and no pressure. Everything else, from the book to the full system we install together at my office, builds from that first honest look.
Cost, time & logistics
What does it cost, and what are the levels?
It starts free. The Score costs nothing and takes about five minutes. From there the levels run from a self-paced course up to bringing your team to my office for the full $77,500 Installation, so there's a real step wherever you are. Working with me one-on-one in The Coach's Office is $37,500, by application, because it's not the right fit for everyone and I'd rather say that up front. No surprise pricing, no upsell maze. The full lineup is on the Run With Matt page.
How much time will this take?
The whole point is to buy your time back, not eat more of it. The Score is five minutes. The book is a weekend. The course runs on your clock. The full install is three focused days with your team at my office, replacing months of you holding everything together.
Does this have to be in person, or can we work remote?
Most of it is remote. The Score, the book, the course, and the one-on-one coaching all run from wherever you are. The cohort is live but virtual. The only level that happens in person is The Installation, where you bring your team to Matt's office for three days. The Game-Plan Call itself is a straight video conversation.
What's the guarantee?
I won't promise results. Anyone who does is selling. What I'll promise is the truth about where you stand and a system that works when you run it. The lower levels let you test the thinking for almost nothing before you ever spend real money, and on the call we only go further if it's a genuine fit.
